MacBook Air M1: external monitor guide
The MacBook Air M1 drives one external display natively, whether the lid is open or closed. Any single-panel portable monitor over USB-C with video works directly. A triple-screen extender or a stacked dual monitor shows only one of its two panels unless you add a DisplayLink adapter and its driver. For a light travel setup, a single 13 to 16-inch USB-C screen is the simplest match.
